
Center player Neymar has participated in London’s 2012 Olympic games where his team had won silver.
The 22-year old Brazilian player will now be seeking gold as he will be selected among one of three over-age football players for the 2016 Olympics.
Olympic teams comprise of under 23 players and an additional three older players. Alexandre Gallo will choose Barcelona FC player Neymar as well as two other over-age players to join the Olympics team. Gallo stated in an interview that you cannot fathom Brazilian football without Neymar.
The Olympic games of 2016 have been dubbed as Rio 2016 as it will be held in Rio de Janeiro. The Brazil national team will hope to win their first Olympic gold medal in football. That is the only major world tournament that they have not yet won.
London 2012 is still vivid in the mind of Brazilians when their national team had lost the gold medal to the Mexican national team. Brazil’s senior team is also scheduled to play in the Copa America Centenario game in the U.S in June 2016. Olympics will be held in Rio de Janeiro in the same year in August, making it a very busy summer for Neymar.
Mexico would be looking to keep their gold medal in Rio 2016 and other teams to watch for would be the Korean which received bronze the last time playing against Japan in the match for bronze. All four national teams would certainly be looking to up their game in the battle for the gold medal.
